The Children’s Foundation of Guelph and Wellington held its 10th annual Around the World Gala on Oct. 17. The fundraisiing goal was set at $100,000 and the event raised over $200,000.
“We can’t thank our community enough for their generosity at this year’s gala,” said executive director Glenna Banda in a press release.
Over the 10 years the Children’s Foundation has held a gala, there has been an increase in demand for programs for local children.
For example, in 2006, 131 children received financial assistance through the Free to Play Program, whereas this year there are over 950 kids receiving funds to play Sports, go to camp and participate in the arts. Adopt-A-Family saw 900 children enjoy Christmas in 2006, while last year almost 2,000 kids received gifts and grocery gift cards for a family holiday dinner.
Knowing there are more than 4,700 children and youth living below the Statistics Canada low income cut off level in Guelph and Wellington, the Children’s Foundation has continued to work to narrow the gap between children that access its programs and those that don’t.
